The Beginning

In January 2024, AnnaJyoti was launched in Lucknow with a simple mission: connect those who have surplus food with those who need it most. What started as a small initiative with just 5 partner NGOs has now grown into a movement spanning 48+ cities across India.

The idea was born when our founder witnessed excess food from a family wedding being thrown away while homeless people slept hungry just a few kilometers away. This stark contrast sparked the creation of a technology platform that could bridge this gap quickly and efficiently.

How the Platform Works

AnnaJyoti uses a simple 4-step process: donors post surplus food or items, verified NGOs claim them, volunteers pick up and deliver, and impact is tracked in real-time. The entire process, from posting to delivery, often takes less than 2 hours.

Our technology stack includes real-time notifications, GPS tracking for volunteers, and an automated matching system that connects donations with the nearest available NGO. This efficiency has been key to our rapid growth.

Key Milestones

In our first 6 months, we've achieved remarkable milestones: 12,847 meals saved, 8,420 kg of food rescued from landfills, 156 verified NGO partners onboarded, and 2,340 active volunteers registered. Each number represents real impact in real communities.

Our top-performing city, Lucknow, alone accounts for 3,240 donations and 15,200 meals saved. Varanasi and Kanpur follow closely, showing the immense potential for growth in tier-2 and tier-3 cities.

What's Next

We're expanding to 100+ cities by the end of 2024. Our roadmap includes an AI-powered matching system, multi-language support (Hindi, Bengali, Marathi, Tamil), and partnerships with major restaurant chains and event venues to capture surplus food at scale.

We're also launching a corporate CSR program that allows companies to sponsor meals and track their social impact through our platform. The goal is to save 1 million meals by 2025.
